I love reading about Eastern philosophy's but sometimes I wonder why. What is it in the mind that makes a person more attracted to one thing than another. Is it the environment which that person is born?

I can see someone who wasn't raised the same way I was to read that as complete absurdity. It speaks to me with great truth. Is it the same feeling a person who believes in God would feel if they were reading about the Bible and it's message? I can imagine growing up in a different environment and believing whatever was taught to me wholeheartedly. Children are impressionable and if you continue to push the notion of any higher being, they'll start to believe. It is hard to write without making any assumptions.

My parents were never very religious, although they claimed Buddhism. So, I was raised Buddhist but never knew what it was. Did other aspects of my life push me towards Asian culture or is Buddhism universally true and that's why I'm so interested in it? If I conclude that it is universally true, wouldn't that be extremely close-minded? But, if I conclude it was because of my environment then I would need to complete a lot more research to find what is universally true.

I am not looking for a higher being to tell me what to do. I'm not looking for a higher being at all. I'm looking to find myself through all of my insecurities and doubts. And so far the only things that have been able to do that is music, meditation, and art.
